Power of Your Subconscious MindThe instructor was teaching her student about something she referred to as the master secret of the ages. “ I speak of a miracle-working power, “ said the teacher, “found where I had never thought to look…in my subconscious mind.” The young student peered into the wise mentor’s eyes and asked, “what is the power of your subconscious mind?”

Accessing Infinite Intelligence

Within our deeper mind, the subconscious, lies an infinite supply of power and wisdom. To some it is referred to as Infinite Intelligence and can reveal to you everything you need at the precise time and place. Here we can find all manner of original knowledge and the solution for every problem, the cause for every effect. The key to accessing this limitless resource is to have an open-mind and be receptive.

Those who recognize the potential of their subconscious mind easily move forward in their life with abundance, security, joy and dominion. It is possible to become very skilled in the operation of our subconscious mind for definite specific purposes and goals. Researchers tell us it is a universal truth that whatever we impress on our subconscious mind will be expressed on the stage of our life. All of our worldly experiences, conditions and actions are the reaction of our subconscious mind from our thoughts, words, feelings and beliefs.

Your Mind Is A Garden, Seed Thoughts to Empower Yourself

This is such a perfect analogy to help us remember how important it is to stay alert and properly tend to our subconscious mind. It is just like your garden, and just like your garden you can plant anything you want in it. You can choose to seed your garden for producing healthy vegetables or you can seed it to produce beautiful flowers or you can just leave it and let the weeds blow in and choke everything else out.

Thoughts are the basic seed for the garden of your mind. As mentioned above you will want to be careful to have great thoughts to plant in your subconscious. If you are slack about this or totally neglectful the results of the harvest, events in your life, will be filled with toxic weeds. Always remember your subconscious mind is akin to the most fertile garden soil capable of growing all kinds of seeds… good or bad!

How To Program The Subconscious Mind

Your mind has two levels: the conscious or rational level and the subconscious or irrational level. Your conscious mind is the “thinking level”. Now whatever it is that you are habitually thinking will be registered in your subconscious level which in turn creates according to the nature of those conscious thoughts and makes it your reality. Hence you program your subconscious mind with your conscious mind. The programming tools of the conscious mind are not only our thoughts, but in a bigger way our feelings, the words and phrases we use in our day to day conversation, and the beliefs we are currently adhering to. And of course our thoughts, feelings, language and beliefs are dramatically impacted and formulated by what we listen to (audio) and what we watch (video).

A critical bit of information to know is; the subconscious mind has no concern over whether your inputs (thoughts, feelings, language or beliefs) are good or bad, true or false. It simply responds and creates according to the nature of the inputs. So be aware and always watchful that your inputs are empowering, positive, constructive, loving, joyful… all the things you want your life to be.

So now we know our subconscious mind is easily persuaded and controlled making it tantamount for us to control with our conscious inputs. If we don’t run the program some thing or some one else will. Inputs are all around and our subconscious mind is always registering them. Be vigilant, always be programming your subconscious with what you want to your life to look like and be.

Subconscious Programming With The Power of Suggestion

With all that goes on in our day-to-day life it can certainly be difficult and somewhat tricky to be “on top” of our inputs all the time. Garbage is going to sneak in. There is much said about the power of suggestion and having tools or practices to make we dominate with the suggestions we desire to get through. All too often friends, family and acquaintances make suggestions to us that could be adverse and as our subconscious doesn’t measure that sort of thing an adverse result is manifest in our reality. We need tools to help us make the suggestions and provide the inputs we want our subconscious to register and create.

      The Validity of Hypnosis
      According to Dr. Clifford Lazarus, Ph. D., hypnosis is “a genuine psychological phenomenon that has valid uses in clinical practice.” [1] The number and variety of clinical studies serves as testament to the power and effectiveness of hypnosis, often the last resort for people who have tried and failed using other methods and therapies.

      It would take many volumes to contain the sheer quantity of case studies in which hypnosis has made a real difference in the quality of life of millions of people. Success stories abound where hypnosis has been used to quit smoking, lose weight, and manage pain, some of which are detailed below:

      In a group hypnotherapy session among 3,000 smokers sponsored by the American Lung Association, 22% reported not smoking for a month afterward. (The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, 2000)
      During surgical radiology, hypnosis diminishes patients’ pain and anxiety, shortens surgical time, and reduces complications from the procedure. (Lancet, 2000)
      Self-hypnosis was largely successful in alleviating chronic tension headaches among 169 patients. (International Journal of Clinical Experimental Hypnosis, 2000)
      Hypnosis significantly boosts the activity of B-cells and T-cells, both key components of a healthy immune system. (American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, 1995)
      In a study of 16 subjects who normally experienced nausea and vomiting before and during chemotherapy, hypnosis alleviated sickness in all of them. (Oncology, 2000)
      The evidence is everywhere. One study concluded that patients who quit smoking with hypnosis are twice as likely to remain smoke-free than those who quit on their own. [2] In another, hypnosis was shown to be 3 times as effective as nicotine replacement therapy and 15 times more effective than trying to quit on one’s own. [3] A study of 60 overweight females concluded that hypnosis was 30 times more effective for weight loss. [4]

      Hypnosis Proves a Popular Choice
      These are not isolated cases, either. People from all walks of life are turning to hypnosis to help them improve various aspects of their lives. Speaking on the Oprah Winfrey show, actor Ben Affleck said: “I finally decided to quit smoking when I found out I was going to have a child. That was the thing that sort of put it over the top for me.” [5]

      Celebrity Ellen DeGeneres famously kicked the smoking habit live on her US chat show, when British hypnotist Paul McKenna hypnotized her and, according to DeGeneres, “probably saved my life.” [6] British pop star Lily Allen recently confessed in an interview in the Daily Mail newspaper that hypnosis helped her drop 4 dress sizes, adding “after the hypnotism, I want to go to the gym every day, otherwise I feel really bad.” [7]

      The list of people past and present who turned to hypnosis to help them develop positive habits, overcome limitations, or iron out personal problems includes Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Kevin Costner, Orlando Bloom, Mozart, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Jack Nicklaus, Jackie Kennedy, and David Beckham. [8]

      According to the American Cancer Society, hypnosis has been evaluated and approved as an effective relaxation technique by the National Institutes of Health. The NIH also found hypnosis to be “effective in reducing fear and anxiety, reducing the frequency and severity of headaches, and controlling bleeding and pain during dental procedures.” [9]

      Powerful Pain Relief Potential
      The applications for hypnosis seem limitless indeed, and nowhere has it proven more effective than in the control and elimination of pain. Hypnotherapy has been shown to reduce pain and speed up recovery from surgery [10], lessen the frequency and intensity of migraines [11], lower post-treatment pain in burn injury victims [12] and contribute to the treatment of phantom limb pain [13].

      Research over the last 40 years clearly indicates that hypnosis is a safe and effective alternative for a vast range of complaints, able to “treat headaches, ease the pain of childbirth, aid in quitting smoking, improve concentration and study habits, relieve minor phobias, and serve as anesthesia — all without drugs or side effects”. [14] It has also been recognized by medical professionals as an alternative for the treatment of IBS, particularly recommended for patients who fail to respond to more traditional pharmacological treatments. [15]

      Exploit the Power of Suggestion
      Hypnosis enables a person to switch off the outside world, relax, and focus attention on a specific area with minimal distraction. Under hypnosis he or she becomes more open to discussion and suggestion, making it possible to “change perceptions or sensations” [16] and influence their thinking and behaviour in a myriad of ways. Hypnosis has been shown to stimulate creativity [17], strengthen the immune system [18], enhance sporting performance [19], and aid in the promotion of concentration, study habits, and the acquisition and retention of knowledge. [20]

      Whether you want to improve aspects of your overall health or make changes that will allow you to live a happier and more fulfilling lifestyle, hypnosis provides a reliable and comfortable means of achieving it.

  4. I like the analogy of the mind to a garden. You plant what you can in your mind and try to cultivate as much as you can. The seeds are everything. Every now and again it needs a good weeding followed up with some organic fertilizer. Every now and again, I like it to lay fallow.

  6. I’ve heard good thing about the subconscious mind Myles,

    And reading your article proves it. I’ve been trying to learn it, it takes a lot work to get your mind used to something, it’s connected to our habits too right.

    Lately I’ve been trying to train myself to wake up 6 am in the morning and i forced myself to wake up even though i was tired and just recently, i noticed that I somehow manage to wake up everyday 6am without even setting up my alarm. Is that considered subconscious too?

    • I’m no expert Riaz but I would say you are directly suggestions to your subconscious by what you are doing there. Take it a step further and close your eyes, use your imagination to hear your alarm going off and you awaken to look at your clock precisely at 6:00 AM. Repeat this “visualization” as often as you can and really put yourself in the moment with your imagination, hearing and feeling like it is really happening.

    I’ve tried self-hypnosis in the past and it’s amazing what a difference it can make in your day to day life. I would use it right before I would go to sleep so I would put the right ideas into the subconscious and hopefully think about them all night.

    I also really like how you compare our minds to a garden. It’s so easy to get lost in the weeds.

  8. That’s a very interesting analogy that I can easily relate. Viable seed and of course good maintenance culture helps one to produce good results in gardening and that makes a good reference point for me to start implementing your ideas. I can liken subconscious programming to training a child to pick up certain values of life in his growth. 

    Just as it requires effort to train that child so is the subconscious mind. I was told by a lecturer how a friend of his trained the subconscious mind to store information in rooms and sections. How he narrated it was very intriguing but made wonder whether it’s possible. Reading your article it seems like it is. Thanks for the info

    I want to ask your opinion about a different method. I call it guided meditation for subconscious mind programming. I feel meditation could be a very effective way to create changes in your subconscious because you can drift into it, without the need to focus all the time. And it´s something you can do it yourself without any assistance. It´s about practicing breathing skills. During the day, find time at least once a day to breathe deeply. This will help you greatly in two ways: 1) your body will become acquainted with the right way of breathing and 2) you´ll feel so relaxed and serene for the whole day, or part of it. All it takes 2-3 minutes. When you practice during the day, it will be very easy to get into an immediate relaxation at night, by applying this breathing technique.
